SCULPTING HEADS & HANDS with Jane Kelsey-Mapel
In this ceramic sculpture class, students will learn a step by step process to create the form and features of the human head and hands. Sculpting techniques will include modeling a solid form and then hollowing it out in preparation for firing as well as slab building and pinch techniques. Basic anatomy and proportion of the head, neck and shoulders will be discussed. Expressive qualities of the head and hands will also be explored through facial expression, gesture of the hands and various surface finishes such as underglaze stencils and transfers.
