COLORED PENCIL ON WOOD with Elliot Everson

In this Workshop, students will utilize wood as a unique surface for creating colored pencil artwork.  Each piece of wood has its own personality and grain, which offers interesting patterns and textures that will stimulate creativity. Learn to integrate these natural qualities with your subject. Natural elements such as plants, flowers, fallen leaves, insects, rabbits and critters can be fitting subjects for this surface.

With examples and demonstrations Elliott will share his knowledge of materials, surface preparation, and techniques for applying colored pencil to wood.

Prepared projects and line drawings, as well as a variety of reference photos will be provided for participants to use in creating their own finished artwork.

If there are subjects you would like to draw, please bring photos or actual objects to work with. Consider using a subject such as plants, animals or even structures that would seem natural, appropriate and at home on wood.

WATERCOLOR POUR with Suzanne O’Malley

Watercolor Pouring is a captivating and experimental method that invites artists to relinquish some control while producing astonishingly beautiful results.  By leveraging the power of gravity and fluid dynamic, artists can create unique compositions that capture the essence of the medium.  In this 2 day workshop, students will learn how to achieve the rich, saturated color using watercolor.  Demonstrations in this workshop will include laying and masking techniques.  In this workshop, students will learn how to sketch and mask their subject matter before pouring the watercolors.  While the watercolor is wet, students will learn to manipulate the colors and textures by pressing in leaves or other materials to vary the effect.  Various images will be provided but students are welcome to bring their own source material.
