WATERCOLOR POUR with Suzanne O’Malley

Watercolor Pouring is a captivating and experimental method that invites artists to relinquish some control while producing astonishingly beautiful results.  By leveraging the power of gravity and fluid dynamic, artists can create unique compositions that capture the essence of the medium.  In this 2 day workshop, students will learn how to achieve the rich, saturated color using watercolor.  Demonstrations in this workshop will include laying and masking techniques.  In this workshop, students will learn how to sketch and mask their subject matter before pouring the watercolors.  While the watercolor is wet, students will learn to manipulate the colors and textures by pressing in leaves or other materials to vary the effect.  Various images will be provided but students are welcome to bring their own source material.

Friday, April 19, 1 – 4 pm & Saturday April 20, 10 am – 1 pm | $150

CERAMICS & IKEBANA  with Ping Wei

Ikebana, the art of Japanese flower arranging, is inseparable from ceramic vases. The practice of Ikebana brings natural botanical materials (flowers, branches, leaves etc.) into living spaces. Vases not only provide the function of supplying water to flowers, but also help achieve the perfect harmony between natural materials and man-made forms.
In this three-part workshop, Ping will discuss the Japanese wabi-sabi in the way of ceramics and flowers. In Part One students will create a ceramic vase for their Ikebana arrangement. Students will have the opportunity to create one or two ceramic vases after discussion and demonstration. In Part Two students will learn about glazing and be given an introduction to Ikebana flower arranging. During the final part of this workshop students will get a more in-depth lesson on Ikebana and learn to create their Ikebana arrangements in the beautiful ceramic vases they created.  All students will leave with their creations, for their home or a gift!

Fridays | April 26 – May 10, 2023 | 1 – 4pm | $225 + $45 materials fee (includes glazes and flowers) + $20 clay fee (optional)

ZENTANGLE MANDALAS with Suzanne O’Malley

The meditative art of Zentangle will be explored in this workshop.  This workshop will focus on Zentangle mandalas. Zentangles are miniature pieces of unplanned, abstract, black and white art, created through a very specific method, to form structured patterns on a square paper tile.  Students will see the patterns unfold before their very eyes as they become completely engrossed in this “artistic meditation.”  They will learn, through guided practice, how to develop different “tangles” that can be expanded upon exponentially. Students can expect to escape the world for a while, as they create patterns and designs that they never thought possible!

All materials supplied & all levels welcome.
