In Week 2 of Summer Camp students learned about all the possible jobs artists can have. Our Summer Campers learned about famous artists throughout history as well as contemporary artists working in Phoenix and around the world today. Twenty-four kids, ages 6-13, explored the possibilities of being a professional artist and let their creativity guide them in making one-of-a-kind art projects.

Instructors, Mrs. Rad (Sculpture), Mr. Jason (Painting) and Mr. Brian (Drawing) with the amazing artists of Summer Camp Week 2.

In painting, students learned about being an architect and used 2-point perspective to design a dream house and used watercolor techniques to make it their own.

Campers learned about the artist Salvador Dali and created melting clocks using ceramics inspired by Dali’s painting, The Persistence of Memory.

Students became curators selecting one painting from class with Mr. Jason and using what they learned about perspective in drawing class to draw an art gallery in which to display their painting.

In drawing class students created imaginary businesses and became graphic designers creating eye-catching designs for their companies.

All the students’ hard work and learning was on display at the Friday Art Show. Pictured above: Museum Designs in drawing class, 2-Point Perspectives and Logo Designs in painting, and ceramic frames, drip sculptures inspired by Dan Lam, and more from sculpture class.

Families enjoyed touring the Friday Art Show and seeing all the students’ hard work.

Thank you to all the families, instructors, volunteers, and students who made it a great Week 2 of Summer Camp!
