PRCD-10-21 Marbling & Collage on Rice Paper with Pam Root & Candice Diaz

MARBLING & COLLAGE ON RICE PAPER with Pam Root & Candice Diaz

This fun and enlightening workshop focuses on Experimental Chinese Marbling and Watercolor Painting Techniques. Collage pieces that have been made by painting rice paper will be incorporated. Students will have fun working loosely, while using their newly learned skills to create artwork without any preplanning!

On the first day, students will see a one-of-a kind piece of art evolve before their eyes when they dip rice paper in water and ink. They will also learn how to master rice paper marbling using just Sumi ink. After the marbleized pieces dry, students will begin to see images and abstract areas that can be painted on with watercolor and acrylic, on Day Two.

Finished marbled paper can also be easily used as bookmarks and note cards. Students are able to bring their own watercolor and acrylic supplies, but it is not required. Rice paper and ink will be provided

BF-33-21 Creating a Concertina Sketchbook and Developing Experimental Mark-making with Bela Fidel

Creating a Concertina Sketchbook and Developing Experimental Mark-making with Bela Fidel

A sketchbook is an artists' best friend.  It keeps their notes, inspiration, ideas, shapes and colors they love so nothing is lost or forgotten.  Sketchbooks come in different shapes and sizes.  The concertina sketchbook can be dedicated to a subject, a technique, the exploration of a theme, etc.

A sketchbook is also a depository of marks artists like, marks they explore.  Mark-making enriches a painting, guides the eye, fills in spaces with a special personality - yours!  Mark-making is an artists signature, their authentic expression.

In this class students will learn to create the brushes that create the marks; they will also learn to create a concertina sketchbook.  When both are done, students will fill the concertina sketchbook with marks or other exercises. It will be fun, interesting and exciting but, most of all, it will fuel student's creativity. All supplies will be provided.

Beginners are welcome

DH-05-22 Mosaic Letters with Dave Hanson

Mosaic Letters with Dave Hanson

ANY LETTER, ANY COLOR, ANY WALL!   MAKE A CUSTOM 12-INCH HIGH MOSAIC OF YOUR FAVORITE LETTER.

An initial representing a family name is a proud addition to any home … and if it’s an eye-popping mosaic of stained glass, colored mirrors, millefiori, beads, and dichroic glass, it's a dazzling showstopper that’ll make an unforgettable gift for a newborn, a friend, or a new homeowner!   Letters have power and beauty both as agents of communication and as visual statements — their curves, sweeps and bends create a bonanza of design opportunities, and these will guide the patterns as students explore the movement in mosaics and the power of contrasting colors and textures.

Day 1 of the class will address basics and students will create a 12-inch inch tall mosaic letter of their choice.   Day 2 will include students choosing their grout color to complete and make their projects pop!

Letters can be provide or students can bring their own.   There are a multitude of precut wooden letters available on-line or at art stores.
