PHOTOGRAPHIC PROCESSES with David Miller 

This workshop will cover four methods of transferring photographic images onto a variety of surfaces, including watercolor paper and ceramic tile, to create one-of-a-kind works of art with a beautiful weathered look that can be left on their own or turned into part of a mixed-media art project.  Materials to be provided with a $25 supply fee.

Join us for a fun night of watercolor painting with John Erwin and you’ll be surprised what you can learn in just a few creative hours! You’ll enjoy the comfortable atmosphere of this light-hearted class and you’ll leave with at least one beautiful, completed painting!

SH-122-20 Collage & Embellishment Techniques with Sue Hunter

COLLAGE & EMBELLISHMENT TECHNIQUES with Sue Hunter

In this fun workshop, students will be introduced a wide range of collage and embellishment techniques. In order to keep the fun and focus on experimenting with techniques, everyone will be creating this whimsical dog image. However, there are NO RULES so students can make their painting as cute, silly, whimsical etc., as they prefer or bring their own image to work from. Students will work with various colorful and patterned papers, stamps, gems, transfer techniques and MUCH MORE to create a finished artwork by the end of class.

CR-03-20 Silk Painting: The Serti Technique with Cheri Reckers

SILK PAINTING: THE SERTI TECHNIQUE with Cheri Reckers

In this workshop, students will learn the art of silk painting and the serti technique (serti: meaning to "outline or enclose"). During the workshop, students will create a one-of-a-kind scarf, wall hanging or table runner on silk habotai using fluid textile paint and water-based resist. Creative options that day will include experimenting with watercolor techniques and students may choose to add texture with salt. Students can create their own simple design on their artwork or use one to be provided by the instructor. After the workshop, students can expect to take their finished silk painting home with them, just in time for the holidays!

No experience necessary! Just come and have fun!

Cheri Reckers earned her BFA with honors from the Columbus College of Art & Design and  has been a professional silk painter for almost 30 years. Her award-winning silk paintings and wearable art have been exhibited nationally and internationally and have appeared in numerous publications. Cheri has been honored with the Master Silk Painter designation from Silk Painters International.

SO-04-21 Zentangle Mandalas with Suzanne O'Malley

ZENTANGLE MANDALAS with Suzanne O'Malley

The meditative art of Zentangle will be explored in this workshop.  This workshop will focus on Zentangle mandalas. Zentangles are miniature pieces of unplanned, abstract, black and white art, created through a very specific method, to form structured patterns on a square paper tile.  Students will see the patterns unfold before their very eyes as they become completely engrossed in this “artistic meditation.”  They will learn, through guided practice, how to develop different “tangles” that can be expanded upon exponentially. Students can expect to escape the world for a while, as they create patterns and designs that they never thought possible!

SB-02-21 Bisque Firing: Revealed! with Stephen Bunyard

BISQUE FIRING: REVEALED! with Stephen Bunyard

In this workshop, students will learn the basics of bisque firing. Temperatures, loading strategies, preparation for the ceramics and basic kiln operation will be some of the topics covered. Bisque firing is an integral step in the process of creating ceramics. Every potter will benefit from taking a closer look at bisque firing and how it prepares an artist for the next step of glazing.

ACRYLIC POUR with Bela Fidel

In this workshop, students will learn that acrylic is a versatile medium which lends itself to surprising effects. Acrylic Pour and the various techniques used with this medium are conducive to creating exciting, beautiful surprises. There will be a focus on the "dirty pour" technique which allows for tons of fun and happy accidents! Come have fun!

KH-05-21 Whimsical Ceramic Vases with Kimberly Harris

 

WHIMSICAL CERAMIC VASES with Kimberly Harris

In this workshop, students will learn to create simple, fun vases that will be manipulated from solid blocks of clay. Different shapes will be explored and patterns can be stamped or carved onto the vase. Kimberly will be giving demos and providing examples of finished vases for reference.

After the first class, the vases will be bisque-fired. During the second class, students will have an opportunity to add patterns and designs to their vases with glazes and underglazes.

Upon completion of this workshop, students can expect to end up with about 2 to 4 finished vases.

PRCD-08-21 Marbling & Collage on Rice Paper with Pam Root & Candice Diaz

MARBLING & COLLAGE ON RICE PAPER with Pam Root & Candice Diaz

This fun and enlightening workshop focuses on Experimental Chinese Marbling and Watercolor Painting Techniques. Collage pieces that have been made by painting rice paper will be incorporated. Students will have fun working loosely, while using their newly learned skills to create artwork without any preplanning!

Students will see a one-of-a kind piece of art evolve before their eyes when they dip rice paper in water and ink. They will also learn how to master rice paper marbling using just Sumi ink. After the marbleized pieces dry, students will begin to see images and abstract areas that can be painted on with watercolor and acrylic.

Finished marbled paper can also be easily used as bookmarks and note cards. Students are able to bring their own watercolor and acrylic supplies, but it is not required. Rice paper and ink will be provided

BF-27-21 Mixed Media with Bela Fidel

MIXED MEDIA with Bela Fidel

In this workshop, students will become acquainted with a variety of materials that are not necessarily associated with art making, but can create amazing texture, richness and depth in artworks. Some of the materials that will be explored in this workshop include acrylic paint, gesso, compounds and collage.

Bela will demonstrate many mixed media techniques. Students will then have the opportunity to apply the techniques they have learned to their artwork.
