DH-07-22 Mosaic Mirrors with Dave Hanson
Mosaic Mirrors with Dave Hanson
Stained glass comes in a dazzling array of colors - arrange them side-by-side in a mosaic and pick the right grout color, and even a simple design will explode into bloom! In this class students will create a mosaic mirror while exploring the power of contrasting colors, and learn how a subtle variation in materials can add depth and amplify light. The class will start with a mirror centered on a 8" x 11" piece of plywood. In the area around the mirror, students will design an eye-popping mosaic of stained glass, colored mirror, millefiori, and dichroic glass. By the time the class is done, students will have a showstopper!
All supplies will be provided - tools, a board with a mirror attached, adhesives and wide variety of glass beads, colored mirror, iridescent and dichroic glass, for a $20 supply fee. However, mosaics are extremely versatile and inclusive, so students are encouraged to bring items to incorporate like an old earring, brooch, souvenir, toy, or memento. At the end of the class the instructor will give a grouting lesson and send students home with a bag full of grout that will make the project pop.
