The exhibition: Terrestrial Wood features 20 works of art by Arizona artists in the time-honored material of wood. Works displayed blur the line between form and function, showing woodturning and carving not merely as traditional trade but as a contemporary art form.

The juror: Tom Eckert uses a wide variety of traditional woodworking techniques in his pieces including laminating, bending, carving, turning, and painting to create surrealistic forms and compositions, playing on notions of mistaken impressions as they relate to our perceptions of our everyday reality.  Tom earned his master’s degree in Fine Arts from Arizona State University, where he is now faculty emeritus.
