PW-06-23 Ceramics & Ikebana with Ping Wei
Description:
CERAMICS & IKEBANA with Ping Wei
Ikebana, the art of Japanese flower arranging, is inseparable from ceramic vases. The practice of Ikebana brings natural botanical materials (flowers, branches, leaves etc.) into living spaces. Vases not only provide the function of supplying water to flowers, but also help achieve the perfect harmony between natural materials and man-made forms.
In this three-part workshop, Ping will discuss the Japanese wabi-sabi in the way of ceramics and flowers. In Part One students will create a ceramic vase for their Ikebana arrangement. Students will have the opportunity to create one or two ceramic vases after discussion and demonstration. In Part Two students will learn about glazing and be given an introduction to Ikebana flower arranging. During the final part of this workshop students will get a more in-depth lesson on Ikebana and learn to create their Ikebana arrangements in the beautiful ceramic vases they created.
