JKM-29-22 Story Telling in Clay with Jane Kelsey-Mapel

Story Telling in Clay with Jane Kelsey-Mapel

This class will give students an opportunity to bring stories to life through the medium of clay.  Stories may be inspired by childhood memories, dreams, Greek mythology, fairy tales, and any other real or imagined source.  The instructor will guide students through the selection of images and construction techniques to best interpret the narrative they choose.  Depending on the student’s interest, the narrative could be realistic, abstract or metaphorical and could be a vessel or a sculpture.  A variety of handbuilding techniques and surface decoration will be demonstrated including transparent underglazes, stains and glazes.

Prerequisite:  Beginning level class in handbuilding

**Masks are no longer required in classes but are encouraged for those who feel most comfortable continuing to wear them.
