Guest Lecture: Michel Sarda, Art Renaissance – Joan Miro

MIRO flyerA Catalan like Dali, born and raised in Barcelona, Miró soon joined the ranks of the Surrealists in Paris and succeeded in establishing his own voice and language within this talented and innovative group of artists. A resident of France until the occupation by nazi Germany, he reluctantly came back to his native Catalonia deeply wounded by the Spanish civil war and the fascist regime of the time. After he settled in the island of Majorca in the Baleares, Miró translated his personal experience into luminous, colorful and even playful visual expressions which still have a lasting influence on many younger artists. He his considered today a major figure of the 20th century art.
