This course will explore some of the creative options available to the artist interested in painting and drawing portraits. Students will be involved in a sequence of hands on exercises and projects dealing with skills that are important to realizing the portrait. Regular slide lectures and critiques are structured informally to encourage dialogue and to provide you and your colleagues with an opportunity to translate visual evidence into words. Beyond concepts and skills essential to good painting practice, Ben will also provide you with a variety of technical and perceptual skills that will help translate what you see to a two dimensional surface.
