Week 2 of Shemer Art Camps was full of fun, creativity and learning! Twenty-eight students ages 6-13 celebrated the animal kingdom, creating artwork inspired by animals big and small. Students learned new skills and techniques in sculpture, painting and drawing.
Week 2 artists with their instructors, Mr. Brian (Drawing), Mrs. Rad (Sculpture), & Mr. Jason (Painting).
In sculpture class students created ceramic animal face plates, learning about slab and coil construction and how to slip and score their artwork in order to make sure their artwork is well crafted and functional.
Students illustrated biomes full of animals, and learned to paint their animals and biomes in contrasting colors so their compositions would POP!
Students learned to create a pinch pot and turned it into a monster using clay in sculpture class, they used glaze to bring their artwork to life.
In painting Mr. Jason taught students about the artist Salvador Dali and students created animal paintings with elongated legs in his style.
Mr. Brian taught students about the artist Charley Harper and shared examples of his artwork.
Students learned about the contemporary artist Mateo Pizarro and drew funny animal mash ups in his style.
Week 2 campers had a fun week creating art and learning together!
On Friday families and friends celebrated all the beautiful artwork created throughout the week at an art show displaying all the students’ hard work and creativity!
