During Week 3 of Summer Camp students learned about the intersection of science and art, creating artwork inspired by their scientific exploration. Campers learned all about the different ways that science, technology and math impact the arts. Twenty three kids enjoyed learning about science and experimenting with materials to make mind-blowing, science-inspired artwork.

Students learned about robots, and the various types of jobs they do, both in the real world and in art. Then campers invented their own imagined robots to do a job for them and illustrated them by drawing their inventions with Mr. Luke and painting them with Mr. Jason.
Campers looked at various animal and plant field guides, noting their observations and asking questions. Then they all worked together to create their own field guide where each students illustrated a page of animals or plants.
In sculpture students looked at abstract sculptures and talked about what makes an abstract work of art, then students used paper to create an abstract sculpture.
Students learned about Op artists, like Victor Vasserly and Bridget Riley, and created their own Op Art masterpieces.
In sculpture students created whimsical fish sculptures out of clay, using what they learned about building with ceramics, like slipping and scoring, slab construction and glazing.
Campers drew and painted their favorite animals, using what they learned about observational drawing and complementary colors.
Students learned about printmaking and created their own monoprints using plants to create nature inspired imagery.
On Friday afternoon all the camper’s hard work was on display in an Art Show for all their families to appreciate all the beautiful artwork created during Week 3!
