The 2023 Shemer Honors dinner gala was held Friday, November 17 and it honored Arizona artist, Ed Mell, who has achieved a successful art career and influenced the Arizona art community during his art journey.

This year’s event was attended by 170 people who enjoyed a wonderful reception with live music by The Dusty Ramblers and then dinner, catered by Personal Touch Catering.  A video was shown during dinner and then a short program followed featuring Honorary Chair Bob Boze Bell and a proclamation by Mayor Kate Gallego, decreeing Friday, November 17, 2023 as Ed Mell Day.

In addition to the dinner gala, the Shemer Art Center’s DESERT LIGHT exhibition features Ed Mell’s work in several iconic forms: original paintings, original works from Ed’s private collection, lithographs, and bronze sculptures.

The event also featured a live auction, which helped the Shemer Art Center raise funds for its current Expansion & Legacy Campaign.

A fun, Shemer-supporting time was had by all!

Thank you to all our Sponsors, Event Partners, Vendors, Staff, & Volunteers for a magical night under the stars, a reminder of the bright light Ed Mell has cast on art in Arizona!

We would also like to thank Ken and the entire staff at the Ed Mell Gallery for partnering with us for this special tribute, exhibition and evening.

Desert Light by Ed Mell is on exhibit at the Shemer Art Center through Thursday January 4, 2023. The Shemer galleries are closed Sunday, December 24 through Monday, January 1, reopening on Tuesday, January 2 at 10 am.
