Artist Statement

As an artist and architect, Agustin’s fascination with ancient techniques, such as egg tempera, silverpoint, and gold leaf, watercolor, oil, and acrylic are found in all of his work. His artwork is in numerous private and corporate collections in the U.S., Mexico, and Italy.  ​

Agustin Vargas’s work transports us to alternate realities, where we get captivated by the subtleties of colors, forms, brush strokes, and the artist’s imagination. The golden section and architectural designs underline his paintings’ compositions.   Vargas captures deeply personal and emotional stories, intertwining past, present, alchemy, philosophy, pain, love, and hope in his expressive paintings.

Since 1985 he has made numerous exhibitions in Mexico and the United States, where shows his fascination with nature, proportions, philosophy, and life. This facility has allowed him to obtain honorable mentions especially in the watercolor technique. He has taught at both the University of Mexico City and the University of Juarez. As a dedicated instructor, Agustin shares his knowledge of techniques and composition. He is an Instructor of Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking.
