A total of 29 scholarships have been awarded this year to high school students from across the Valley as part of the 32nd New Horizons High School Student Art Exhibition held January 14 – March 3, 2016 at the Shemer Art Center.

Each year every high school in Maricopa County is invited to submit its two best works of art for display. For 2016 we are pleased to showcase the work of 72 high school students from 37 schools across the Valley. Works of art included 2-D images as well as five sculptures, a mask, necklace and two rings.

On January 23 the participating students were honored at an Awards Ceremony attended by family, friends and instructors. Artists receiving scholarships included:

Kaitlyn Baxter, Rachel Busale, Sarah Calahan, Yanethzi D. Cornel Saugeda, Laura Edmundson, Kalella Gamble, Vanessa Gilbert, Shy Harper, Harseerat Jajj, Grace Krigbaum, Amber Lenninger, Maia McDay, Noskin Nughat, Jade Price, Michelle Quiggle, Sydney Roach, Jesselin Romero, Zoe Rosin, Marissa Salazar, Isabel Scherrer, Maryn Solomon, Ya Song, Kayla Sullivan, Giovanni Villalba and Marianne Vu.

TheStudent Choice Award was presented to Noskin Nughat for her artwork titled “The Laborer.”

Donors who graciously provided a scholarship for this year’s artists included:

Update: After being on display at the Shemer Art Center for an extended seven-week period, this year’sexhibition was moved, installed and displayed in the lobby of Phoenix City Hall from Monday, March 28 through Friday, April 8, 2016.
