FEBRUARY 17 – MARCH 10, 2018

The 2018 Southwest MicroLiving event, the fifth event of its type held at the Shemer Art Center, will showcase the latest trends in artistic design and architecture while creating an artistic challenge that leads to various micro housing and garden structures studied and constructed by our state colleges and city leaders.

This juried exhibition of up to 12 tiny homes and garden structures will be on display each weekend (Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.) from February 17 to March 11, and showcased as part of a larger festival that also celebrates sustainability and features micro art, micro gardening, and micro brews, plus showcases Arizona artists, art demonstrations, event-theme presentations, live music, food & business vendors, and a micro-art raffle!

EVENT DATES:      

Feb. 17 – Mar. 11, 2018, each weekend (Saturday and Sunday) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ADMISSION:

$10 per person, $20 per family.

ATTENDANCE:

Expected attendance is 4,000-5,000 people (1,000 people+ per weekend).

PLANNED THEMES:

Each weekend of the 2018 Southwest Micro-Living event will have a specific art theme and time schedule of entertainment, demonstrating artist, workshops and art activities for both adults and children, plus food & beverage vendors and a micro-art raffle. Planned art themes include:

Succulents & Sustainability

This weekend will focus on succulents, sustainability, solar and other energy uses, zero waste, zero or low-water landscaping, perhaps a koi fish group, etc. with demonstrating workshops and activities.

 Art in the Garden (garden/floral art) Plus Raised & Hanging Garden Beds

This weekend will focus on art found in the garden, as well as garden (floral) art. Ten tents are reserved for our previous Fine Art in the Garden event artists.

 Bonsai, Raku & Ceramic Art

This weekend will focus on the art of bonsai, plus raku and ceramics with organizations to be invited such as the Japanese Friendship Garden, AZ Clay Association, Ceramic Research Center, local community college ceramics programs, etc.

Ikebana & Botanical Art (wood, fabric)

This weekend will feature ikebana and botanical art, including wood and fabric, with workshops such as Japanese flower arranging, and Asian brush painting.

ARTISTS:       

Ten 10’ x 10’ tents will be available each weekend for artists. Artists will be juried into the event based on media categories. Pricing will be determined based on the number of weekends participants will be involved:

One Weekend: $60

Two Weekends: Second tent is $40               ($100 total investment)

Three Weekends: Third tent is $30               ($130 total investment)

All Four Weekends: Fourth tent is $20         ($150 total investment)

BUSINESS SPONSORS:  

Ten tents will be available each weekend for business sponsors. Businesses such as solar, roofing, window and door companies can participate, as well as companies offering solar, energy-efficiency, paint, furniture or other products and services. Pricing will be determined based on the number of weekends participants will be involved:

One Weekend: $60

Two Weekends: Second tent is $40               ($100 total investment)

Three Weekends: Third tent is $30               ($130 total investment)

All Four Weekends: Fourth tent is $20         ($150 total investment)
