JKM-21-21 VIRTUAL CLASS - Ceramic Figure Sculpture with Jane Kelsey-Mapel




In this class, Jane will discuss basic anatomy and structure and will demonstrate hand building and modeling techniques.  Student's personal approach may be realistic, abstract or whimsical in style and may focus on the human or animal form. Surface finishes will include the use of underglazes and cone five glazes.

Students will need to have a work area with a digital device such as a lap top, ipad, tablet or smart phone. Demonstrations will be recorded and available for viewing for two weeks after each session. Dates will be available to drop off work at the Shemer for firings. The last day of class will be in-person at the Shemer studio for glazing. Masks must be worn and social distancing will be practiced.

**The final day of class, April 8, 2021| 1:00 - 4:00 pm will be held at the Shemer Art Center for glazing artwork. All proper safety procedures will be observed and attendees will be required to wear a mask

Jane Kelsey-Mapel is an Arizona artist known for her narrative ceramic figure sculptures. She holds a bachelor's degree in Art from Arizona State University and a master's degree in Ceramics from the University of North Texas. Her work is held in numerous public and private collections and has been featured in U.S. and international publications.
