DW-72-21 Ceramics: Experimenting with Color & Glaze with Danielle Wood

In this class, students will have the opportunity to explore color and glaze. The students will be able to try different glazing techniques with cone 5 glazes, decals, paper transfers, slip trailing, sgraffito, mishima, and lusters. Discussions and demonstrations will be tailored to the developing needs of each student artist.

Different handbuilding techniques will also be demonstrated including slab building, coiling, pinch pots, press molds, drape/slump molds with an emphasis on texture to be accented by glaze. Discussions will also include how to apply glazes efficiently, feathering glazes, making washes with oxides, different techniques that can be used with colored slips and other processes depending on the needs of the class. Discussions on the different types of glazes and their firing temperatures will also be available. This will be a glaze intensive with the opportunity to test different glazes so each student will have the opportunity to discover their own palette of glazes for their ceramic work.
