JKM-13-19 Ceramic Figure Sculpture with Jane Kelsey-Mapel

This class will be an exciting exploration of the human and/or animal form in clay. Students will learn basic anatomy and structure using hand building techniques such as pinch, coil and slab. Projects may include a skull study that can be decorated in the style of Day of the Dead sugar skulls, slab built torsos, head cups, hand studies and portrait busts. Surface finishes will include the use of translucent underglazes, stains and glazes. The ultimate goal of this class is for students to have fun while learning about clay and the figure and developing their own style. Note: live models will not be used, students may work from photographs or their imagination.
