SCULPTING HUMAN AND ANIMAL FIGURES with Jane Kelsey-Mapel
In this ceramic sculpture class, students will have the opportunity to construct animals and the human head and shoulders. These figures may stand alone or may be combined to suggest a story, a special relationship or a particular emotion. Students will learn the technique of using templates with slab building in a manner similar to sewing with pattern pieces. Basic anatomy and proportion will be discussed as well as how to create expression through the modeling of facial features and the use of gesture. Various surface finishes such as underglazes, stains and matte glazes will be explored.
