Artist Statement

“As an artist I am interested in capturing things from the natural world that bring me joy. Most often I paint plants and animals. I am especially inspired by the unique beauty of Arizona, it’s cacti, citrus, warm color palate, and the desert southwest. Another passion of mine is painting dogs. I try to capture their singular personality in a whimsical way. I find that focusing on a dog’s eyes helps me capture the essence of a particular pet.

I work primarily in oil, either on canvas or board. I find working with the alla prima method (wet into wet) yields the most satisfying results. I try to complete most paintings in one or two sessions – I think it keeps them looking more fresh!

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Arizona. I worked as a creative director at an award winning graphic design firm for 15 years. I have enjoyed continuing my painting studies for most of my adult life, most recently at Shemer Art Center with Sue Hunter.”
